R’membeh This…

Today we got a nice lil double dip surprise. We’re kicking it back to the Pedro Martinez era of the Red Sox. This is a time where if you went to a game it was extremely likely you’d watch something special and be witness to history.

Here we have on two instances where Pedro gassed 17 batters. SEVEN. TEEN. Not once but twice in his career for a personal best. And it’s not like these two 17 K games were anomalies. Pedro was out there climbing the hill every game with a mission to get at least 10 K’s while also going deep in the game. The only guy on the current staff who could do this is Chris Sale, and he’s usually out of the game by 6th inning.

The first game was against the New York Yankees on September 10th, 1999. And the Second game was the following season against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on April 6th, 2000. I mean ya, to strike out 17 Devil Rays doesn’t seem daunting. But to do the same thing to 17 batters on the 1999 New York Yankees. He emasculated the World Series Champs. And he did all of this with the most disgusting three pitch combination. I’m talking anti-vaccer type sick. What Pedro did in his time here is 100% why he was a Hall of Famer.
