THE QUEEN OF TDE IS BACK!!!!!
After going for years without releasing her own music (since 2017 as the lead artist), SZA teased to her fans on Thursday afternoon via social media that there was new music coming that night with the perfect location tag on her Instagram post.
The new music video released on midnight eastern on Thursday and is already close to 4 million views in less than three days. Directed by SZA, produced by the Neptunes, the song “Hit Different” really does hit different. I’ve been waiting for new music from her since I fell in love with her last album, Ctrl, and a single like this means an album is on the way soon.
After a deleted-twitter rant by SZA back in August, where she blames TDE President Punch for not releasing any new music, I was afraid that those tweets would cause Punch to push back new releases even further than they already have.
But, as twitter warriors always do, they came to fight for SZA and must have scared Punch into trying to push out this new SZA single as soon as possible. The tweets were sent two weeks before the song was released, so I am curious as to how the timing of everythign actually went. Was this video filmed months ago and just sitting on stand-by in the TDE vaults? Did they immediately go record the song and shoot the video after Punch got attacked on twitter by the SZA stans?
Who’s to say, but the video directed by SZA herself is great, and Ty Dolla $ign sounds perfect on any hook he sings. Go watch the video, stream the single, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend knowing that a new SZA album is closer to us now more than the past two years.
